More issues emerged on Wednesday at the on-going 2014 National Conference in Abuja as the debate on the inauguration speech by President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan continued.

 

Issues bordering on national security, economic development, true federalism, restructuring of the polity, among others took centre-stage as delegates spoke passionately on the need for the country to look back before going forward.

 

As the debate opened on Wednesday, Professor Titi Filani asked rhetorically: “How did we get to where we are today; what did we do or what did we not do right.”

 

Chief Joshua Fumudo, former national president of Ijaw Youth Council, as if in an answer to the question said Nigeria must be restructured as it were before and after the 1960 Independence before the military struck in 1966.

 

He said the central government must let go its grip on the states; and that the only way out was for the Conference to work out what he called a genuine constitution-based federal structure.

Oduah on ‘Hot’ seat; as she was been interrogated for 5hours..........

The former Minister of Aviation, Ms. Stella Oduah, was being interrogated for over five hours at their Idiagbon House headquarters in Abuja. EFCC summoned the former minister to their office and was thoroughly questioned after which she was asked to make statement which could help the commission in their investigation.

Source has that , Oduah arrived at Idiagbon House around 10am and was quizzed for over 5hours on the purchase of two BMW bulletproof cars by the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority at a exorbitant sum of N255m and she left at 3.30pm after being granted a provisional bail.

One of governorship aspirant, under the umbrella of Labour party, Mr Opeyemi Bamidele has come up with one of their empty promises says-”I will not take salary if elected governor”.

Bamidele in the preparation for June 21 election in Ekiti, made this unrealistic statement on Thursday while campaigning at Igede-Ekiti in Irepodun/ Ifelodun Local Government Area that he may not collect salaries and emoluments throughout his four year tenure if elected. He also went further pledging not to seek a second term if he wins the election- say the four years will be enough to implement all his programmes. Could this really be true?

A Federal High Court in Lagos has restrained the Nigeria Police and the Department of State Services from arresting or harrassing the suspended Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Sanusi Lamido.

The court also ordered the DSS to release Mr. Sanusi’s passport to him immediately while also awarding the embattled CBN boss N50 million in exemplary damages. Mr. Sanusi’s passport was seized on February 20, as he arrived the Lagos international airport, hours after he was suspended as CBN Governor by President Goodluck Jonathan.
He was briefly detained as well.
Mr. Sanusi, in separate suits, had challenged his suspension, and asked for enforcement of his fundamental rights as enshrined in the Nigerian constitution.
The court, on February 21, granted an interim order, restraining the respondents from arresting, detaining, or harassing the applicant pending the determination of the substantive suit.

Nollywood Actor Hanks Anuku was made the Special Adviser to Governor Emmanuel Uduaghan of Delta State on Tourism and Entertainment in 2010, before he left the job. After that, he was in the news for being delivered from alcohol and mental illness by Prophet TB Joshua.
In a recent interview, he explained the reason behind his relocation to Ghana.
Why did you leave Nigeria for Ghana?
Yea, as you can see, I am in Ghana now. It was a decision I made to get a few things for myself and to get closer to God because so many things happened to me in Nigeria that I was not happy about.
