Breaking News: The Document Used To Impeach Maigari Finally Leaked
There have been allegations and accusations of ‘financial impropriety’ and ‘financial recklessness’ by disgruntled members of the NFF executive, and it is no surprise that Aminu Maigari paid the price with his office. There were also allegations of victimization of certain board members by Maigari and his close confidantes on the board – Chris Green, Emeka Inyama, and Ahmed Fresh. So it wasn’t a surprise that none of the mentioned names signed the impeachment note, as presented by chairman of the NFF finance committee, Shehu Adamu.
Eight out of the thirteen present board members signed the impeachment, which saw Maigari ousted, even though Ahmed Kawu, whose signature was on the impeachment note later told newsmen that ”I didn’t sign any document to impeach anybody. I saw my signature on the document but I didn’t sign anything.” The board has also called for a congress which will hold next Thursday in Abuja, and is expected to ratify the decisions come to during the board meeting, and also the sacking of Aminu Maigari as the NFF president.
What might seem perplexing and confusing to so many Nigerians definitely will be the exact allegations against Maigari, and what the board has got on him that made his sack so easy. The document that was presented before the NFF executive board, which served as charges that set the tone for Maigari’s removal from office, barely one month to another elective process are now available to journalists.
Whispers even has it that he will soon be brought up on charges of ‘corruption’, ‘misappropriation of funds’, ‘financial impropriety’ and ‘financial recklessness’, by the Economic and financial crimes commission (EFCC). It is still unclear what will happen between now and the conduction of elections into the next board of the Nigeria football federation which is scheduled for August 26, but one thing that is crystal clear – the charges brought against Maigari.
