In the search for rescue of the abducted school girls, the United States Government has finally agreed to help search for 276 abducted students of the Government Girls Secondary School, Chibok, Borno State. According to the spokeswoman for State Department, Marie Harf, she said:
“We have been engaged with the Nigerian government in discussions on what we might do to help support their efforts to find and free these young women” she said. “We will continue to have those discussions and help in any way we can”.
She also refuse to give details on the kind of assistance Washington is offering, said: “We know Boko Haram is active in the area and we have worked very closely with the Nigerian government to build their capacity to fight this threat”. Harf, also made mentioned of the 2012 fiscal year, when the United States gave Nigeria the sum of $20 million to assist on security issues, she added that part of the money was meant to be earmarked on building the nation’s military, boost its capacity to investigate terrorist attacks as well as enhance government’s forensic capabilities.
