BREAKING NEWS: New PDP faction asks court to sack Bamanga Tukur, others

The new splinter group that broke out of the ruling Peoples Democratic Party , PDP, on Saturday has asked a Lagos High Court to sack the Bamanga Tukur-led executive of the ruling party.

A statement by the National Secretary of the new faction, Olagunsoye Oyinlola, said his camp brought the case before the court as a demonstration of its determination “to effect a change and stem the slide of the PDP”. Mr. Oyinlola named the plaintiffs in the case to include himself, factional chairman, Abubakar Kawu Baraje, and factional Deputy National Chairman, Sam Sam Jaja.
The Baraje-led faction, according to Mr. Oyinlola, is asking the court to restrain chairman of the other faction, Bamanga Tukur, its Deputy Chairman, Uche Secondus, Women Leader, Kema Chikwe, and Publicity Secretary, Olisah Metuh and others from parading themselves as members of the national executive of the party.
They also sought a motion exparte asking for leave to serve the defendants outside the jurisdiction of the court.
In its ruling, according to the statement by Mr. Oyinlola, the court granted the plaintiffs leave to serve the defendants in their various locations.
But with regards to the matter of their illegality as members of the National Executive Committee of the party, the court ruled there was no urgency as to the fact of who should hold what office and directed both parties to maintain the status quo.
Parties are to return to court on September 9 to argue the motion on notice.
