During an interview given to a local television station, the naitonal team captain said that ”the team is in a great place to win something” though he believes the teams to follow are Germany, Brazil, Spain and France.
“There have been a lot of great Argentinean teams that came into the World Cup with great expectations and did nothing,” said Messi, saying he prefers to go “little by little”
Regarding the teams they will face in the group stage, much below the form of the South American team, Messi stressed that “no World Cup is easy, all of the matches are hard. You cannot think we have an easy group, we have to work for it on the field.”
The player added that manager Alejandro Sabella “has done great work and changed the results” of the team that went from being eliminated in the quarterfinals of the 2011 Copa America to leading South American qualifying.
