Exclusive! How Armed Robbers Abducted Lagos Council Boss, Kept Him Hostage For Hours...

For the family of the Secretary to Agege Local Government, Honourable Idowu Salaudeen Akerele, there is every cause to thank Almighty Allah for His mercies. On Friday, October 4, 2013, Akerele had just closed for work and was driving home in his CRV jeep. In order to beat the traffic gridlock on Okekoto Road, he branched into the street beside Elere police station.
He had not driven for about four minutes when a car blocked his path and within minutes two youngmen pointed guns at him. “One sat beside me pointed his gun at me and asked me to continue driving while another sat at the back. I was asked to continue playing the music in my car CD,” Akerele narrated.
Eventually, another of the gang took over the wheel from him while another of the gang member was driving their own car. He was asked to bend down and not raise his head. He was driven around for hours before the robbers finally decided what they want to do with him.
“Around 1am, I was asked to come down at a junction. By this time, they have asked to remove all my clothes except my boxers. My wrist watch, shoes and everything on me had been removed. I was left with only boxers. I was asked to kneel down and one of them pointed his gun at me with the intention of shooting. But thank God, the one who seems to be the leader told him to leave me alone since I have cooperated with them all along. That was how I was left off the hook and they drove away in my car,” a relieved looking Akerele.
Thegazellenews.com learnt further that it was a Hausa man he met at the spot he was dropped who gave him something to wear. “It was the man who told me that I was Cappa junction. He even told me to thank God for sparing my life because few days before, a man was killed at the spot,” Akerele said.
It a combination of policemen from Oshodi, Ikeja and Mangoro that later escorted him back home at about 3am the following morning.
His car was later recovered by the police the following day.
