DAILY POST fayemiA high Court siting in Ado Ekiti had ruled in favour of Governor Kayode Fayemi on the libel suit filed against Compass Newspaper, over malicious and libellous publication against the state Government and the person of Dr Fayemi.
Compass Newspaper had published in one of its editions that Fayemi was deducting 1Billion Naira from the Local Government Account Monthly .
The paper equally published that the Governor withdrew N25O Million from the State account to bribe Justices of the Supreme Court to seek favour from them because of a pending case he had with Engr Oni.
The Claimant called two witnesses who established that the Publications were false. The Compass thereafter, abandoned their Statement of Defence.
The Court however found out that the Compass newspaper was reckless and malicious in its Publication and that failure to retract and apologise to the Governor was despicable, awarding 2 Billion Naira Aggravated Damages against them, and also demanding a public apology to be published in Compass and at least, 2 National Dailies. The paper was also asked to retract the said publication.
