EXCERPTED FROM PUNCH NIGERIA
There
are indications that a former Deputy Governor of Lagos State, Femi
Pedro, has dumped the People Democratic Party for the All Progressives
Party.
This was said to be as a result of his alleged reconciliation with
the leader of APC, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, our correspondent learnt on
Thursday.
Tinubu had last year been accompanied by his wife, Oluremi, to grace
the wedding ceremony of Pedro’s son, which coincided with Tinubu’s 60th
birthday.
It was gathered that Pedro recently had a secret meeting with Tinubu,
Rivers State Governor, Rotimi Amaechi, and the interim National
Chairman of APC, Chief Bisi Akande, to finalise his impending move to
APC.
Sources disclosed that his move was motivated by the recent crisis
rocking the PDP which made five governors to defect to the APC.
A source said, “The intrigues behind the crisis rocking the PDP have
already thrown the national leadership of the party into a state of
confusion.
“The fear is that Pedro’s move at this moment will be a significant
blow to ongoing efforts to reposition the party following the dust
generated by the exit of the G5 governors to APC.
“For a high profile politician like him, the stake is high. Remember
his prominence and membership of the PDP’s Elder council in Lagos.”
Attempt to reach both Tinubu and Pedro proved abortive as calls put across to their phones did not go through.
