The All Progressives Congress (APC), on Tuesday, kick-off
its national campaign for the November 16 Anambra State governorship
election, under Dr Chris Ngige, as over 10,000 people stand en mass in
support of Ngige.
The
event, which at its earlier stage, was interrupted by heavy rainfall
which lasted for hours, took place at the Basilica of the Most Holy
Trinity, Onitsha.
Among the APC dignitaries at the occasion were the national leader of
the party and former Governor of Lagos State, Senator Bola Tinubu;
Governor of Edo State, Adams Oshiomhole; Imo State governor, Chief
Rochas Okorocha, the Governor of Ekiti State, Chief Kayode Fayemi and
the former governor of Abia state, Dr Ogbonnaya Onu.
Addressing the crowd, Tinubu commended the people of the state for turning out in solidarity.
Tinubu called on Anambra people to continue their support for Senator
Ngige so that he would get back to the Government House, Awka and
continue the programmes that have been stalled in the past seven years.
He declared “Anambra will change and grow from height to height”.
In his contribution, the Governor of Ekiti State, Kayode Fayemi, said
there was the need for Anambra State to elect a governor that has been
tried and tested.
“As a public servant, he will never forget his antecedent”, he said.
He tasked the people to start their campaign for Ngige and make sure that after voting and monitor their votes.
Rochas said that the party was not a money sharing party.
In his speech, the Edo State Governor Adams Oshiomhole described Dr Ngige as a good product which did not need much advertising.
In his adderss to the people, the APC governorship candidate, Dr
Ngige told the people that Anambra State would by December 2014, have
its own airport.
He announced free education to primary and post primary schools and to reduce Anambra State University School fees in the state.
Dr. Ngige also said that pregnant women in the state would receive
free medical service and to add money to the civil service Minimum wage
in his administration.
He said “today, there is a lot of kidnapping, arm robbery and other
vices. Our people no longer come back from Lagos and other places. We
are going to sweep away kidnappers and robbers.
I will come back to give you people Ngige quality road I do not say what I cannot do”.
